Emily Lundstrom
Ph.D. Student (Advisor: Williams)
Emily Lundstrom’s research examines energy, metabolism and factors related to performance in athletes as it pertains to health and performance optimization
- Energy and Metabolic Status in relation to health and performance outcomes
- The Female and Male Athlete Triad
Emily Lundstrom’s research interests include examining energy, metabolism and factors (such as psychological stress and eating behaviors) related to performance in athletes. Her research also involves health and performance outcomes of energy deficiency in the context of the Female and Male Athlete Triad. During her Master of Science, under the direction of Dr. Nancy Williams, Emily coordinated a cross sectional observational study in elite Division 1 Swimmers that investigated association between HRV and measures of strain from a wearable device to laboratory measures of metabolism and psychological stress in Division 1 Swimmers subjected to a heavy training load. In addition to her Master's research, she assisted with the coordination of a randomized controlled trial to investigate the effect of a nutritional intervention on bone health in postmenopausal women. As she progresses with her Ph.D. she is investigating eating behaviors and within-day energy deficiency in male and female swimmers, as well as continuing her research on energy, metabolism, and factors influencing athletic performance in athletes.
